Angina pectoris. Artwork showing a heart and a human figure, with arrows (purple) showing the characteristic distribution of pain in the chest when the heart muscle does not receive enough blood. This condition is known as angina pectoris. Pain is felt in the chest radiating towards the neck, right shoulder, right side, and down the left arm. The partially sectioned left coronary artery on the heart artwork shows atheroma deposits (yellow) due to atherosclerosis. It is this blockage of the coronary arteries that reduces the blood supply and causes angina pectoris. In severe cases, it can lead to a heart attack.
