Inflamed cervix. Colposcope view of the inflamed cervix of a 55 year old woman. Inflammation of the cervix, the neck of the womb, is known as cervicitis. It is most often caused by an infection, but may also be caused by an allergic reaction. Treatment is of the underlying cause. In chronic cases the inflamed cells may be removed by cryotherapy or laser treatment.
