Richard C Tolman (1881-1948), US physicist and physical chemist. In 1916 Tolman showed that electrons were the charge carrying particle in metals and determined its mass. Tolman published a number of works on statistical mechanics, covering their application to classical and quantum systems. He also applied thermodynamics to cosmology and the study of cosmic microwave background and the oscillatory universe hypothesis.
