Burning boric acid ester, timelapse footage. Trimethyl borate is produced in a flask by the reaction of boric acid and methanol in the presence of a sulphuric acid catalyst. When the bottle contents are ignited, an eerie, dancing green flame burns, which is characteristic of a boric acid ester.
