Caption

Three barking dogs. Footage of a demonstration of the 'barking dog' experiment. This is an exothermic reaction between carbon disulphide (CS2) and nitrous oxide (N2O). The products of the reaction are nitrogen gas (N2), carbon dioxide (CO2) and sulphur (S8). The reaction produces a bright flash and a characteristic 'woof' sound as the gases expand rapidly.
