Caption

Close-up of the gleba of a strangled stinkhorn mushroom (Staheliomyces cinctus). The fruiting body of this mushroom comprises a white perforated stalk, with a foul-smelling sticky spore mass (or gleba, grey) near its top. The smell of the gleba attracts insects, to which the spores become stuck, aiding their dispersion. Filmed in the Jama Coaque Reserve, in the Ecuadorian Amazon.
