Close-up of insects on the male flower of the tagua, or vegetable ivory, palm (Phytelephas aequatorialis). The seeds of this palm contain a hard white endosperm known as vegetable ivory, which can be carved and polished in the manner of ivory from animals. Filmed in Jama Coaque Reserve, Ecuador.
