Caption

MDMA molecule. Computer model of a molecule of MDMA, or Ecstasy. Ecstasy or E (3, 4-methylene dioxymethamphetamine) is an illegal euphoric drug. The atoms (balls) are colour-coded: carbon (turquoise), hydrogen (white), nitrogen (blue) and oxygen (red). It gives users a sense of well-being, affection for the people around them, increased energy and sometimes hallucinations. Possible short-term problems associated with ecstasy include feeling ill, losing control and dehydrating. Long-term problems include memory and weight loss. Some deaths have been associated with the drug. These have generally been caused by an accumulation of water in the brain rather than being due to the drug's direct toxicity.
