Prostate cancer. The prostate gland (yellow) surrounds the urethra just below the bladder (top), and secretes fluid that contributes to semen. It may become enlarged, and the growth of a prostate tumour can obstruct the neck of the bladder, impairing urination. Prostate cancer is one of the most common male cancers, usually affecting the elderly. However, it is slow-growing. If diagnosed, treatment may involve hormone therapy, surgery to remove the prostate gland, or radiotherapy.
