It is usually caused by respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) which produces inflammation of the bronchioles, the smallest air passages in the lungs. The insert shows mucus and inflammation in the bronchioles. Symptoms include coughing, wheezing and shortness of breath and sometimes difficulty in feeding. It is more common in the winter months.
