Alloy precipitates. Atom probe tomography (APT) image showing copper-rich, plate-shaped precipitates and tiny spherical particles of tin in an aluminium alloy. Aluminium is shown in blue, copper in red and tin in yellow. In the left-hand representation all atoms are shown as dots. In the centre representation, the regions of high copper and tin concentrations are shown as iso-concentration surfaces. In the right-hand representation the aluminium atoms are shown as dots around the copper and tin isosurfaces. The length of each side of the base square is 78 nanometres and the height of the sample is 363 nanometres.
