Foot oedema. Close-up of the foot of a 76-year-old female patient affected by oedema. Oedema is swelling caused by fluid accumulating in body tissues. Here, gravity has caused the fluid to collect in the foot. It can be caused by several factors, including heart failure, kidney failure, cirrhosis of the liver and deficiencies in diet. Treatment is of the underlying cause, but the condition can be relieved with diuretic drugs.
