Diabetic skin lesions. Close-up of lesions on the leg of a 60-year-old female patient caused by necrobiosis lipoidica diabeticorum. Necrobiosis lipoidica is a skin condition that causes tissue death (necrosis). It commonly affects diabetics, when it is known as necrobiosis lipoidica diabeticorum. The exact cause is unknown but it is an inflammatory condition caused by collagen degeneration, combined with a granulomatous (immunological inflammatory) response.
