Caption

Brain tumour. Meningioma (round, centre) in the sella turcica of a skull. The sella turcica (Turkish Chair) is a saddle-shaped depression in the body of the sphenoid bone of the human skull. Meningiomas are tumours arising from the meninges - the membranes that surround the brain. They are usually benign (non-cancerous). Many produce no symptoms and require no treatment other than observation. Those that do cause symptoms may be treated with either radiotherapy or surgery.
