Brain haemorrhage. Brain after a subarachnoid haemorrhage (SAH), showing blood over the surface. SAH is bleeding into the subarachnoid space - the area between the arachnoid membrane and the pia mater, one of the meningeal membranes that surround the brain. It may occur spontaneously, from a ruptured cerebral aneurism, or as a result of head injury.
