Caption

Light micrograph of a section through the excretory duct of a human salivary gland. The salivary glands secrete mucus, serous fluid and amylase enzyme to aid mastication and begin the digestion of starch into sugar. The secretions from the glands drain into excretory ducts which carry saliva into the oral cavity. Magnification: x50 when printed at 10cm wide.
