Cells in cerebrospinal fluid, light micrograph. Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) is a clear fluid produced by the choroid plexus of the brain and found in the brain and spine. It provides cushioning for the brain's cortex and immunological protection for the central nervous system. Normal CSF contains both red and white blood cells.
