Valley on Mars. Curiosity rover image looking into a valley on Mars at a location called 'Dingo Gap', with a sand dune in the foreground and low scarps either side of the gap. The largest of the dark rocks on the sand at right are about 60 centimetres across. The Curiosity rover is part of the Mars Science Laboratory (MSL) mission. It landed on Mars on 6 August 2012, on a mission to investigate the Martian climate and geology. Image obtained during early afternoon, local solar time, with the Mast Camera (Mastcam) on 30 January 2014. This image is white-balanced to simulate Earth lighting conditions. For this scene as it appears in Mars lighting conditions, see C023/5797.
