Hybrid wing-body wind tunnel test. Fluorescent oil being used in a wind tunnel test on a model of a hybrid wing-body aircraft. This wind tunnel test is being carried out by researchers at NASA's Langley Research Center, Virginia, USA. This is a 5.8 percent scale model of a futuristic hybrid wing body being tested in the Subsonic Wind Tunnel. The fluorescent oil allows researchers to see the flow patterns when air passes over and around the model. Those patterns are important in determining crucial aircraft characteristics such as lift and drag. Image published in 2013.
