Sochi Winter Olympics, Russia, infrared satellite image. North-looking view of mountains rising from the Black Sea behind the Sochi Olympic Park Coastal Cluster (bottom centre). Vegetation is red and snow is white. The Winter Olympic Games took place here and at top right (C023/5814) from 7-23 February 2014. Visible and infrared data was draped over digital elevation data exaggerated 1.5 times. The area imaged is about 24 kilometres left to right, and 41 kilometres from front to back. Image acquired on 4 January 2014 by the Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER) instrument on NASA's Terra satellite.
