Sochi Winter Olympics, Russia, infrared satellite image. Southwest-looking view of the alpine area of the Sochi Winter Olympics. Vegetation is red and snow is white. Rosa Khutar ski resort is in the valley at centre. The Winter Olympic Games took place here and in a coastal area (C023/5813) from 7-23 February 2014. Visible and infrared data was draped over digital elevation data exaggerated 1.5 times. The area imaged is about 18 kilometres across and 32 kilometres front to back. Image acquired on 4 January 2014 by the Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER) instrument on NASA's Terra satellite.
