Elevation map of the bedrock beneath the Antarctic ice sheet. Dark blue areas have the lowest elevation through green, yellow and orange, to red areas with the highest elevation. Dark brown areas are outcropping rock. Understanding the bedrock is crucial to understanding the ice sheet above it and how it changes, including how its melting could contribute to global sea level rises.
