Centipede. Preserved specimen of the centipede Scolopendra spinosum. The Centipedes are arthropods with elongated bodies and one pair of legs per segment. Centipedes are swift nocturnal predators which kill their prey using powerful venom administered from forelegs that have been modified to function as fangs. They feed on worms and insects, as well as small birds, lizards and mammals.
