Caption

Calcified pericarditis. Coloured computed tomography (CT) scan of a section through the torso of a patient with calcified pericarditis. Pericarditis is inflammation of the pericardium (bright orange) - the sac that surrounds the heart (red-orange, upper right). Here, it has also become hardened due to a buildup of calcium salts in the pericardial tissue.
