Bell X-5 experimental aircraft, historical image. This experimental jet aircraft was built in 1951 for NACA, the precursor to NASA. It was the first aircraft capable of changing the sweep of its wings in flight. Photographed at Edwards Air Force Base, California, USA, on 23rd September 1952.
