Frost on Martian dunes. Satellite image of autumn frost accumulation on the Russel Crater dunes, Mars. This frost is carbon dioxide ice that often sublimates (going directly from a solid to a gas) during the Martian spring. Imaged by the High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment (HiRISE) camera on NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) satellite.
