Robot-assisted thyroidectomy surgery. Surgeon watching a display of an operation being carried out using the Da Vinci robotic surgical system. This procedure is a thyroidectomy, the surgical removal of all or part of the thyroid gland. The Da Vinci system enables a surgeon (not shown) to perform a minimally invasive surgery with enhanced vision, precision, dexterity and control. While sitting at an ergonomic console (see C023/8210), a surgeon controls the system, which translates his or her hand movements into smaller, more precise movements of tiny instruments inside the patient's body.
