Caption

United States Forest Service volunteer at fire lookout tower teaches a young girl how to spot wildfires. Besides binoculars, fire lookouts use the Osborne Fire Finder in the foreground to determine the fire's location. This instrument is used to find a directional bearing (azimuth) to smoke in order to alert fire crews to the fire. Photographed at the Strawberry Peak Lookout Tower, Twin Peaks, California, USA.
