Intestinal diseases. Animation showing the appearance of various intestinal diseases as seen by an endoscopy examination. The first condition seen is diverticulitis, where pouches (diverticula) have formed within the bowel wall. This is followed by polyps, potentially benign but also potentially cancerous growths protruding from the intestinal wall. The third condition shown is a malignant (cancerous) tumour (red and black), a form of bowel cancer. The final condition shown is Crohn's disease, a type of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).
