Light microscopy of nerve cells or neurons clustered to form a ganglion. These nerves are part of a vast interconnected network found in the muscle walls of the gut. Known as the myenteric or Auerbach's nerve plexus, their function is to control the local smooth muscle contractions of the gut. The plexus can act independently but may in turn be regulated by external autonomic nerves linked to the spinal cord. Magnification x70 when printed at 10 cm.
