Solar energy. Diagram showing the principles behind a solar tower power station. A large array of mirrors are used to reflect sunlight to a point at the top of the tower where tremendous heat is generated. This is carried away by a transfer fluid such as molten salt to heat exchangers. The heat boils water, making steam that passes through turbines and powers generators that create electricity.
