LNGS particle physics laboratory. DarkSide experiment inside Hall C of the Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso (Gran Sasso National Laboratory, LNGS), Italy. This particle physics laboratory lies 1.4 kilometres beneath the Gran Sasso mountain range, which shields the LNGS experiments from outside radiation, allowing particle physicists and astrophysicists to study rare interactions involving neutrinos and other particles, in a low-radiation background environment. DarkSide is a collaboration of international universities and laboratories aiming to directly detect dark matter in the form of weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs).
