Salivary gland. Coloured light micrograph of a section through a parotid salivary gland. The glands are divided into numerous lobules by stretches of connective tissue (orange). The pink secretory cells produce components of saliva to lubricate the mouth and enzymes to break down carbohydrates when chewing food. The parotid produce only serous secretion.
