Caption

Penicillium fungus and bacterial colonies cultured in petri dishes. The antibiotic penicillin is derived from Penicillium mould. Penicillin drugs can kill bacteria and inhibit their growth, and are used to treat a variety of bacterial infections. However many bacteria have developed resistance, due to inappropriate and widespread use of these drugs.
