Roentgenium (Rg). Diagram of the nuclear composition, electron configuration, chemical data, and valence (outer electron) orbitals of an atom of roentgenium-280 (atomic number: 111), an isotope of this radioactive element. The nucleus consists of 111 protons (red) and 169 neutrons (orange). Named after Wilhelm Roentgen and first synthesised in 1994, this element is a transactinide of unknown properties in group 11, period 7, and the d-block of the periodic table. Roentgenium-280 has a half-life of 3.6 seconds.
