Sedge female and male flowering spikes. Flowering spikes (inflorescences) of the pendulous sedge (Carex pendula). The smaller spike at left is a female one. The spike at right (yellow) is a male one, bearing the anthers that produce pollen. The pollen of this plant is distributed by the wind (anemophily).
