Acromegaly is a condition caused by overproduction of the growth hormone somatotropin (STH), which is produced and regulated by the anterior pituitary gland. The overproduction of STH is often due to a benign tumor in the anterior pituitary gland. The condition can be controlled with drugs, or the tumor can be surgically removed or treated by radiotherapy.
