Fibromyalgia (FM or FMS) is a disorder of unknown origin, which causes chronic pain and allodynia (a heightened and painful response to pressure) over various parts of the body. However, fibromyalgia, is not restricted to pain and therefore may be classified as fibromyalgia syndrome. There are nine paired tender points that comprise the 1990 American College of Rheumatology criteria for fibromyalgia. Pictured here are the five posterior ones.
