Duodenum in coeliac disease, endoscopic view of the interior of the duodenum (end of the small intestine) of a patient with coeliac disease. Coeliac disease (or gluten enteropathy) is an uncommon genetic condition where the lining of the intestine reacts to gluten, a protein found in cereals. This causes inflammation, diarrhoea, malabsorption, mineral and vitamin deficiency, leading to fatigue.
