Apollo Soyuz Test Project crew. Portrait of (from left to right) US astronauts Thomas Stafford (born 1930), Donald Slayton (1924-1993) and Vance Brand (born 1931) with Soviet cosmonauts Alexey Leonov (born 1934) and Valeri Kubasov (1935-2014) with a model of the Apollo CSM-111 and Soyuz 19 spacecraft docked with each other during the Apollo Soyuz Test Project (ASTP). The ASTP mission was the first joint international manned space-flight. It took place from 15-24th July 1975. The Russian Soyuz and American Apollo spacecraft docked in orbit on 17th July to test a jointly-designed international docking mechanism.
