Electric kettle. Historical illustration of a kettle that has been fitted with an electric heating element. It is not known who invented the electric kettle, but it is thought that electric heating elements were first used for this purpose in the late 19th century. Artwork from 'Electricite' (1911) by Max de Nansouty, part of the 'Les merveilles de la science' series of 1867-1891 by Louis Figuier.
