Desert Candle (Caulanthus inflatus) bloom on the Temblor Range, Carrizo Plain National Monument. This California endemic wild flower grows to four feet, with yellowish inflated stems and dark purplish flowers. In years of high rainfall these plants can be abundant but completely absent for many years in normal rainfall conditions.
