Colour enhanced light micrograph of living specimen of Trichonympha agilis, a parabasalian protist that lives in the intestines of many termite species, breaking down the cellulose in the wood and plant fibers eaten by their hosts. This specimen was taken from the gut of an eastern subterranean termite (Reticulitermes flavipes). Phase contrast light micrograph, magnification: 600X at 5x5 image size.
