Intermittent pneumatic compression (IPC) pump at the end of a hospital bed. The pump is connected to inflatable sleeves on the patient's legs. It inflates and deflates the sleeves, and the waves of pressure squeeze fluids through the tissues of the lower limb, ensuring movement of venous blood. This can help prevent deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism and cardiac depression, which are risks of surgery.
