Caption

Flu virus particles. Transmission electron micrograph (TEM) of a section through a number of different influenza (flu) virus particles (virions). There are three influenza types (A, B and C). Influenza A and B viruses cause seasonal epidemics of disease almost every winter in the United States. Influenza C infections cause a mild respiratory illness and are not thought to cause epidemics.
