Paper Astrolabe made by Philippe Danfrie. French, Paris, 1584. A rare example of a printed paper astrolabe mounted on wood and pasteboard. The fittings are brass. Paper instruments were much more common in the 16th century than it would appear from surviving examples, many of which are included in printed books.
