Caption

Manuscript Astrolabe made by Hanns Herghamer. German, 1492. Paper instruments have not survived in great numbers, but this probably does not reflect their currency in the period. This very simple astrolabe was originally stuck between the fly-leaf and the cover of a copy, in its original contemporary stamped leather binding, of Johannes Angelus, Astrolabium, Augsburg, 1488, from the library of Prince Liechtenstein.
