Strontium titanate surface. Combined overlay and high-resolution scanning electron microscopy (HRSEM) image of surface atoms in strontium titanate. Surface atoms drive a large portion of a material's interactions with its environment. HRSEM extends scanning microscopy to the atomic scale and provides information on both surface and bulk atoms simultaneously. The new technique was tested with TEAM 1.0 (Transmission Electron Aberration-corrected Microscope) at NCEM (the National Center for Electron Microscopy), the Molecular Foundry, at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, California, USA.
