Caption

Lookdowns (Selene vomer). X-ray of a section through three lookdowns, showing their skeletons. Because of its sloped head and the enlarged crest on its skull, the lookdown appears to 'look down' as it swims. They are found in marine and brackish waters of the western Atlantic. These specimens measure 17 centimetres in length.
