Bilateral Baker's cysts. Close-up of the swollen knees of an 85-year-old male patient affected by Bakers cysts. Baker's, or popliteal, cysts are fluid-filled lumps behind the knees, caused by the build-up of pressure within the knee joint. They are often a complication of a disorder such as rheumatoid arthritis. The cysts can rupture, causing great pain. Treatment is with drainage of the fluid and anti-inflammatory drugs.
